More positive signs for the Lib Dems after local election wins in England
The Liberal Democrats saw themselves finish second in number of councillors elected over the weekend in England, beating the Tories in the local vote for the first time since 1996. The party gained 104 seats and control of two more councils in Dorset and Tunbridge Wells.
Liberal Democrat candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, Grant Toghill, thinks that this is a continuing picture that the Liberal Democrats are back on the rise and can look forward to gains at the General Election across the UK including in Scotland.
Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, Grant Toghill, said:
“Another set of local election results in England is showing that people are turning to the Liberal Democrats again. It has been three consecutive years of gains since 2022 where we also saw a gain of 20 councillors in Scotland.
“People are turning to the Liberal Democrats to get a change from two governments in chaos and a party that will fight for a fair deal for them. We will keep fighting hard for people’s votes to see Liberal Democrat gains in Scotland and the wider United Kingdom come the General Election.”
