Worrying that Renfrewshire Police Stations on chopping block
Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats are worried over Police Scotland’s planned closure of two of the local police stations including the headquarters in Mill Street in Paisley and Ferguslie Park station as the force seeks to raise funds to plug a budget gap.
This would leave Paisley without any police station along with cutting down to two stations over the whole of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde with Greenock Police Station also proposed for closure. That would be through the Renfrew and Johnstone police stations.
Local campaigner Grant Toghill said, "This is another blow for community policing in Renfrewshire under the SNP. It is shocking to see the plans have a town as large as Paisley would not have even a single police station.
"The police have to make operational decisions around their estate and what is fit for purpose but the fact of having such a tight budget from the Scottish Government has clearly led to this outcome.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see a properly resourced police service that is ready and able to operate in communities across Scotland. As people need to be able to have police visibility in their communities."
