Responding to the UK Government announcing that there will be no compensation for WASPI women in Renfrewshire, Scottish Liberal Democrat councillor for Paisley Southwest Anne Hannigan said:

“The new government has turned its back on pension-age women in Renfrewshire who were wronged through no fault of their own. In doing so they have ignored the independent Ombudsman’s recommendations. It is frankly disgraceful.

“The Conservative party left our economy in a shambles, but asking wronged pensioners in Renfrewshire to pay the price of their mismanagement is simply wrong.

“For years, Liberal Democrats have pushed the government to fairly compensate WASPI women in Renfrewshire in line with the Ombudsman’s recommendations. Today’s heartless decision cannot be allowed to stand, we will be pressing ministers to give those affected in Renfrewshire the fair treatment they deserve."
