New primary school site plan still a bad deal says Lib Dems
The site that has been secured to deliver a new primary school for Dargavel is still a bad deal for the local community says the Liberal Democrats.
The Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats are calling on the council to consider the building of a new high school to fix more miscalculations around education capacity needed for Bishopton.
With already £45m having to be spent on a new primary school to sort out the errors in pupil forecasts for Dargavel Primary School, it is now being learned that the £30m expansion to Park Mains High School might not make enough capacity for pupils.
Local community council for Bishopton already urging for consideration of building a combined education and leisure campus and now the Renfrewshire Lib Dems are joining calls for a proper long-term solution to be considered.
Local Scottish Liberal Democrat Campaigner, Grant Toghill said:
“This whole saga is such a mess and seems like there is no leadership being shown to give a proper solution to the schooling situations for Bishopton. No wonder the community has lost confidence.
“It is clear for everyone apart from the council that a new high school is needed to support both Bishopton and Erskine with having proper capacity. Instead of just putting so much money into costly extensions there needs to be leadership taken and listen to what people are saying. For example, the local community council has given a good proposal of using the money more efficiently to build a full campus.
“Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats want the council to look at seriously building a new campus for Bishopton to properly give school capacity for the area and for the Scottish Government to look at providing funding to support such a development like they have done for schools in other areas of Scotland such as Dunfermline. “
