The site that has been secured to deliver a new primary school for Dargavel is still a bad deal for the local community says the Liberal Democrats.
The proposals that were approved by the education board at Renfrewshire Council for a new 800-pupil school the Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats feel both fails to deliver for the long-term requirements of the community along with still failing to deliver on the original promises of the village to residents.
Local residents and parents are worried about the planned location being so close to the existing school with it planned to be at the other end of the road and traffic and safe crossing issues happening at Dargavel Primary.
Renfrewshire Lib Dems disappointed in what appears to be a lack of flexibility from the SNP led council and continuing to fail to listen to residents on sensible ideas such as a joint education and leisure campus to give both primary and secondary school capacity.
Local Scottish Liberal Democrat Campaigner, Grant Toghill said:
“It looks like the site plans that were approved by the education board seems to have taken no consideration of any of the local community suggestions. This is another bad deal that the council has made for the residents of Bishopton.
“The original issue was blamed on previous council officers, but I am afraid that this solution has no such safety net. Another requirement of social houses given up for a school with one 3G pitch that was entirely mismanagement by the council. Such lack of thought for local services, particularly leisure, should be something that the SNP administration should be ashamed of.
“Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats want the council to look at the failure they have made of the whole Dargavel plan and reconsider the proposal for an education and leisure campus to start to truly deliver for the needs of Bishopton. “
